Generally, a commodity which is typed, written, or printed matter with no commercial value is treated as a document and does not require a commercial invoice, whereas a non-document shipment does require a commercial invoice.

Make sure the receiver understands the charges they are expected to pay by calculating the shipment’s landed cost, which is an estimate that includes applicable duties, fees, taxes and transportation costs based on origin, destination and the products in the shipment.
